Many of my clients have had difficult experiences in their lives, and often had childhoods that were less than idyllic.

They may have grown up with parents (or other primary caregivers) who were chaotic, unavailable, emotionally abusive, or unstable. These past experiences continue to impact their present lives in a variety of ways; feelings of perfectionism and “should”-type thinking are pervasive - I often hear statements like, “Things aren’t that bad, I should be feeling better than this” or “My life has been hard in some ways, but others have had it worse - I shouldn’t really need therapy.” Many of my clients are hard on themselves and have a near-constant voice in their heads that tells them they are not enough or that they just need to get over it or try harder, which does a number on their self-esteem and self-worth. They know they need to heal and move forward, but often are not sure where or how to start.

My clients are often struggling to be their best selves in their closest relationships. They may have a hard time communicating around important issues, feel more irritable than they’d like with a partner, or are at a loss as to why relationships are not working out for them. They often feel that they’re trying their best but are still struggling to get by. They are using the skills they learned from early caregivers, but find those skills are falling short and may even be causing significant problems in their relationships, careers, and lives.

I hope to be able to support you through these challenging times by providing a safe space for you to be yourself and share what’s on your mind while working to create meaningful and lasting change. I will help you to process and move forward from your past while learning skills to create a better future. You deserve to feel good, to have love and compassion for yourself, and to live a life that feels fulfilling and joyful. I’d love to help you get to a better place.
